7. Bog walk - Leitirmór na Coille

Leitirmór na Coille in south Connemara is a remote village that sits at the end of a three mile road off the R336. From its elevated west facing position at the foot of a small range of mountains and hills it offers uninterrupted views of the bays and islands of south Connemara. The village, which locals say is one of the oldest in Connaught, has a number of habitats which have been relatively untouched for many years. With the views, stone walled gardens, native trees, mountains and lakes, it has a uniqueness all of its own.

Highlights:
panoramic views of south Connemara, Aran Islands, Loch Corrib, Galway Bay and the Twelve Bens

Duration:
2 – 3 hours

Grade:
Easy. This is a bog walk so the terrain can be very wet and mucky. There is gradual ascent of 317m with some steep parts in places

Equipment required:
