Tomás Ó hAinreacháin

I have been living in Connemara for the past ten years. Apart from its stunning landscape, I love its peace and quiet. No day is ever the same whether it's the weather, the sky or the light that changes. As a kid I used to travel to all parts of the West with my parents. I first climbed Croagh Patrick in Mayo as a 16-year-old.

But it wasn't just the views that made a deep impression on me. It was the talk with strangers. The climb, the walk, the talk made us companions. That's what I love about being a tour guide. Walking and talking breaks down barriers.

My paradise is in Clare, Galway and Mayo, the whole west coast really. Don't get me wrong, I have walked the Camino 800 kilometers from St John to Santiago in Spain, the Danoli National Park in Alaska
and have climbed the Cairngorms in Scotland. But I only have to step outside my door to begin a beautiful coastal walk.
Yes, I am lucky.
Like my colleagues in this association I am a Failte-Ireland Approved Marine  and Countryside Guide. I have been a member of the Galway Walking club for the past    12 years. I am also pursuing a Mountain Leader Award. I love camping and when the night is clear I can talk about the stars to those who are interested. Navigation is all about    the stars and navigation with map, compass and the stars is one of the skills I offer in my tour guiding.
